Social Responsibility
Green Planet Recycling is acutely aware of the duty of social responsibility which rests on all businesses which are able to contribute. In line with this, Green Planet has adopted Moonprint: Concerts for the Earth (See www.moonprint.co.za) as its corporate social responsibility partner and together we recycle numerous large-scale musical events on a not-for-profit basis.
Green Planet is the service provider to Moonprint, Oppikoppi Productions and Old Mutual Encounters for all events staged by them at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia. This includes events by such outstanding South African and international performers such as Goldfish, Mango Groove, Johnny Clegg, Freshly Ground, Flash Republic, Arno Carstens and many others.
We “green” these events in order to ensure that the absolute minimum of non-recyclable waste is ultimately disposed of in landfill sites. We are proud to have achieved excellent recycling figures where in excess of 85% by volume of all waste generated at these events is recycled and kept out of landfill sites.
In addition to the recycling carried out on site, various bins and containers are placed on the event grounds with high-visibility labels to create awareness of recycling, not only on site, but also to encourage and educate the event attendees on the different recyclable materials which can be sorted and separated from waste streams.
Waste is sorted on site into the primary recyclables of
- Glass
- Paper and cardboard
- Tins
- Plastic and polystyrene
Thereafter, further sorting and separation into the different categories and grades of each recyclable material still take place and for an example of the different categories of plastic, click here to go to our page on Plastics Information.
